Ladies and gentlemen, dear colleagues,
I am delighted to invite you to the 123rd Congress of the DOG, which will take place from September 25 to 28, 2025 in Berlin.
The developments of recent years have brought about profound changes in ophthalmology that will continue to shape our field in the future.
Technological advances such as gene therapy, robotics and artificial intelligence, along with structural changes in medical care, training as well as new research challenges call for fresh answers. In addition, sustainability and shifting power dynamics in politics and society are becoming increasingly significant.
Under the motto ‘Ophthalmology in transition – shaping the future together’, we aim to address these developments at DOG 2025. Together, we will tackle the challenges of modern medicine and research, develop new competences and strategies and make the most of the opportunities presented by technological progress. The dialogue between the various players and across generations will be central to this effort.
Sustainable progress in ophthalmology can only be achieved if we foster an environment that actively promotes the development and practical implementation of innovative ideas. For this reason, the DOG 2025 has launched a comprehensive innovation initiative to support creative approaches, knowledge transfer and entrepreneurship.
As part of this initiative, the Ophthalmology Innovation Forum will be held at DOG 2025. In collaboration with Euretina and ESCRS, we are organizing an Innovation Day to strengthen the exchange between researchers, industry and opinion leaders in ophthalmology. Together, we will discuss unsolved challenges (‘Unmet Needs’) in our field and develop new solutions.
We are particularly looking forward to your active participation: At the Ophthalmo Pitch, young researchers will have the opportunity to present their innovative projects to a distinguished jury of experts. The highlight of this format will be the presentation of an Innovation Prize, which will be during the pitch competition.
Another special feature of DOG 2025 will be the FEBO diploma examination (Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology), which will be offered on site in Berlin for the first time.
You can look forward to a diverse program that combines the latest scientific insights with practical experience. We warmly invite you to engage in stimulating discussions and help shape the future of ophthalmology with us.
I look forward to welcoming you in person at DOG 2025 in Berlin!
With best regards from my colleagues,
Yours
Prof Dr Siegfried Priglinger, FEBO
President of the DOG
